Philippine police say 19 people died when a truck carrying over 40 people fell down a mountain ravine from the north.
Police say 22 other folks aboard the vehicle, including the driver, were hurt in the accident Thursday night in Conner city in Apayao province.
The truck was carrying largely older farmers and villagers returning home after getting seeds and monetary aid from local officials at neighboring Kalinga province.
Officials say the brakes failed and caused the driver to eliminate control of the truck on the street.
Many similar mishaps have happened in the Philippines’ densely populated west hills due to the bad condition of roads and vehicles and the absence of evidence, railings, and other security features.
