This Saturday marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, a historic turning point that shifted Germany, Europe, and the entire world.
A sign of the Cold War and remainder of the West and the East, the Berlin Wall Wasn’t demolished immediately.
Its demolition began on 9 November 1989, together with individuals chipping off it with hammers, chisels and sledgehammers, producing unofficial boundary crossings and symbolically end years of economic strain.
This Saturday at 9:30amCET, a commemoration service is held in the Berlin Wall Memorial in Bernauer Strasse.
In 11:15amCET, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will talk at the Berlin Wall Memorial in Bernauer Strasse.
Celebrations will culminate this day in the Brandenburg Gate, with entertainment on the main stage. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will maintain a speech.
