44 suspected members of Boko Haram Discovered dead in Chad prison

Speaking on national television, Youssouf Tom reported the 44 offenders were found dead in their mobile on Thursday.

An autopsy carried out on four of the deceased offenders revealed traces of a deadly material that had induced heart attacks in a few of the sufferers and acute asphyxiation from others, ” he explained.

The dead men were among a bunch of 58 suspects seized during a significant army surgery around Lake Chad started by President Idriss Deby Itno at the end of March.

“After the combating Lake Chad, 58 members of Boko Haram were taken prisoner and delivered to Ndjamena to the goals of the evaluation,” explained Tom.

“On Thursday afternoon, their jailers told me that 44 offenders were found dead in their cell,” Tom stated, adding that he’d attended the spectacle.

“We’ve buried 40 bodies sent four bodies into the medical examiner for an autopsy.” An investigation was continuing to ascertain precisely how the prisoners had expired, he explained.

‘It is dreadful’

Prison officials had”secured the offenders in a little cell and denying them food and water for 3 days since they were accused of belonging to Boko Haram”, Ibedou told AFP. “It is horrible what’s happened.”

The authorities denied the allegations.

“Toxic materials were found in their stomachs. Can it be collective suicide or something different? We are still searching for answers,” he stated, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

Among the offenders was moved to the hospital on Thursday, but he had been”faring better” and had rejoined”another 13 prisoners still living and that do nicely,” the ministry stated.

Important performance against Boko Haram

Before this week, the ministry told AFP that the captured men were moved to Ndjamena on Tuesday day and handed to the court procedure for trial.

The army operation against Boko Haram murdered over a million of their team’s militants and also cost the lives of 52 soldiers, a Chadian military spokesman said.
