Heavy gunfire on Thursday spanned several areas in the Mexican town of Culiacán, residence to Joaquín”El Chapo” Guzmán’s Sinaloa cartel after security forces were reported to have arrested a boy of the infamous kingpin.
The Mexican networks Televisa and Milenio both said security forces had supported the catch of Ovidio Guzmán, that, together with his brothers, is thought to be powerful in the cartel because their dad was detained in the USA.
A senior administration source told Reuters that the accounts were right. Milenio broadcast a picture it said revealed Ovidio Guzmán at detention.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador told colleagues his safety cabinet would provide details regarding the scenario in Sinaloa in the future Thursday.
State authorities confirmed to Reuters that many prisoners escaped through the chaos, which continued for hours. Video revealed a group of a minimum of 20 individuals running on the roads. It was not immediately clear how many had been escaped.
Vehicles along with a petrol station were put on fire whilst cartel gunmen roamed the town in trucks, at least among which was equipped with a mounted machine gun, videos published on societal media revealed.
State authorities said there have been no confirmed deaths, though two movies broadcast on Milenio revealed guys lying in the roads, seemingly dead.
