Bianca Andreescu jumps into top five as Ashleigh Barty Catches top ranking

US Open winner Bianca Andreescu, 200th in the world rankings per year back, jumped to the top five on Monday, while Ashleigh Barty knocked Naomi Osaka off top place.

Eliminated from the first qualifying round in New York a year ago, Andreescu climbed 10 places to number five after defeating Serena Williams in the final on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Canadian is 1 area behind Osaka, whose defense of her US name ended in the quarterfinals.

Barty was pumped out in the past eight but, because she had been knocked out in the fourth round 2018, raised her position points total.

The Australian is only over 400 points before the Czech Karolina Pliskova, which climbed one spot to next.

The best two’ve opened a significant gap over Elina Svitolina, who climbed two places to third after attaining the semi-finals in New York.
