China has issued a travel alert warning its citizens not to go to Australia because of the substantial rise in racist attacks on Asian and Chinese men and women, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on Friday, stating the alleged strikes came in the wake of this coronavirus pandemic, ABC News reported.
Australia is the most China-reliant market in the developed world, which makes it exposed to diplomatic blowback.
The warning comes following Australia declared a challenging new screening plan on overseas investors trying to purchase sensitive resources as it calls to strengthen national security. Telecommunications, energy, engineering, and defense-manufacturing business will be contained from the zero-dollar threshold for screening.
The changes, meant to be legislated this season and enforced from Jan. 1, will incorporate a new national safety evaluation and provide the treasurer last-resort forces to induce asset sales. Beijing reacted with verbal attacks on the conservative authorities, saying that it had been doing the bidding of crucial ally the U.S.
Ahead of Australia’s calls for research into the roots of this coronavirus, its diplomatic ties with China were under stress. The authorities mentioned Beijing’s”meddling” into federal events as a catalyst for the anti-foreign interference legislation passed in 2018the same year it prohibited Huawei Technologies Co. from helping assemble its 5G network.
