The Taliban on Sunday named US President Donald Trump’s decision to call off peace talks with the team as”incredible,” asserting his”unsatisfactory” tweets”ruined his credibility.”
“A couple of days back, we finalized a deal with the US, the text of which had been delivered to the pioneers of the delegations and given to Qatar. Everybody was fulfilled. It had been agreed that Qatar would declare the offer. However, the offensive tweets from President Trump are incredible and ruined his credibility,” Suhail Shaheen, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s political division in Doha, Qatar stated in a tweet at Arabic.
Regardless of Trump’s conclusion, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday stated that the government is working toward a bargain, but it won’t proceed before the Taliban delivers on its responsibilities.
The US was negotiating with the Taliban at the past couple of months at Doha regardless of the group’s hesitation to hold direct discussions with the Afghan authorities, which it views as a US puppet.
Before this week, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad said that the Trump government had reached a deal”in principle” to draw over 5,000 troops out of Afghanistan in exchange for guarantees from the Taliban.
