Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick declared Thursday he will run for the Democratic Party nomination for president.
His decision to go into the key comes against the background of the realities of the political calendar — that the filing deadline at all-important New Hampshire is Friday — and continuing consternation from some Democrats regarding whether the present field presents viable choices to conquer President Donald Trump at 2020.
Patrick ruled out a presidential bid before this season, telling NBC10 in the time he had questions about the parting of an effort and the effects of this on his loved ones.
His late entrance presents large challenges, both in finance and once it comes to creating a campaign organization that could keep pace with other candidates who’ve been operating for nearly a year.
Based on his campaign site on Thursday afternoon, Patrick stated, “This race isn’t only about the personality of any 1 person, but about the nature of the nation.
