Malta ex-chief of Employees under arrest, faces Additional questions in murder probe

The authorities haven’t officially explained why Schembri was under arrest or if he had been considered a suspect in the case which was rocked Malta and led to renewed calls from opposition politicians for Muscat to resign.

Neither Schembri nor Fenech has made any public announcement because their arrests and their attorneys haven’t responded to requests for comment.

Fenech was arrested a week ago because he attempted to leave Malta on his yacht, the day after news broke that the supposed middleman from the 2017 murder of Caruana Galizia was detained.

Caruana Galizia was murdered by a car bomb as she drove from her dwelling. Three guys are awaiting trial to get put the bomb off.

The supposed middleman, Melvin Theuma, has been awarded a presidential pardon on Monday in return for signs that could be utilized in court to replicate those suspected of ordering the killing. Local press reported that he had passed over sound records. [nL8N2853NY]

“We desperately wish to explain the circumstance,” explained Paul Caruana Galizia, among Daphne’s sons.

The Times of Malta newspaper reported Wednesday the Fenech’s physician had been detained on suspicion he passed messages from Schembri into Fenech after his arrest last week, urging him to remain silent.

The authorities have 48 hours in which to either charge or free individuals under arrest but Fenech has been detained and released three times in rapid succession as coughing and investigations continue.
