Seven soldiers and one civilian had been killed in an ambush in Egypt’s North Sinai area on Friday, security sources said, in an attack claimed by Islamic State.
Two soldiers were wounded in the assault from Bir al-Abed, both security sources stated.
Islamic Condition said 15 soldiers were killed in the assault, in a statement carried by its own Amaq agency. The claim couldn’t be verified.
Egypt has been combating with militants, who have waged an insurgency that has killed tens of thousands of soldiers, citizens and police, at the northern portion of the Sinai Peninsula.
Also on Friday, Egypt’s Defence Ministry said security forces had murdered 118 militants in central and north Sinai at the”past period”, without giving dates.
