Palestinian killed, Two Injured in Israel-Gaza counter strikes

Palestinian militants fired a barrage of rockets at Israel and the Israeli army responded with a tide of pre-dawn airstrikes in Gaza killing one person on Saturday, Palestinian and Israeli officials said.

Gaza health officials stated the 27-year-old murdered was one of three men injured in an airstrike on a militant training camp in which he had died in hospital. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had been a civilian or a gunman.

The Israeli army said that Palestinians fired 10 rockets from Gaza to Israel late on Friday, eight of which were intercepted. Authorities said one projectile had struck a home in a city close to the boundary, causing harm but no casualties.

In reaction, the army said, a set of Israeli strikes targeted websites belonging to Hamas, the Islamist militant group that principles Gaza.

The Israeli army said Hamas was finally accountable for the assault.

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars over the last ten years and cross-border worries are high and these flare-ups aren’t uncommon.

Israel pulled its settlers and troops in the narrow coastal strip in 2005 however retains the enclave under a blockade, citing safety issues. Approximately 2 million Palestinians live in Gaza.
