Paris celebrates 75 Decades of liberation from Nazi occupation

Last updated on August 26, 2019

Paris is observing the French resistance fighters, American troops as well as many others who free the City of Light from Nazi job exactly 75 decades back.

Firefighters will increase a French flag over the Eiffel Tower, recreating the minute when a French tricolor stitched together out of sheets was hoisted atop the monument 75 years ago to substitute the swastika flag which had flown for four decades.

Paris suffered comparatively minor damage in World War II, but its citizens were ashamed, hungry and mistrustful following 50 weeks under the Nazis.

The liberation of Paris was equally joyous and disorderly, with almost 5,000 people murdered.
