Pentagon’s Esper Needs Turkey”back in the fold”

U.S. Defence Secretary Mark Esper said on Wednesday it was important to deliver Turkey” back in the fold” because he revived warnings that Ankara seemed to be drifting off from NATO for this season’s arms deal with Russia and its incursion into Syria.

“We want Turkey back in the fold. They have been great allies for several decades, all of the way back to fighting with the USA from the Korean war, up to (its) existence together in Afghanistan,” Esper informed a small group of colleagues.

“So we must continue to create the ties, particularly in the (military-to-military) degree, to make sure we can have a lasting relationship which can get us through this challenging period at this time.”
