Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported the introduction of an internet”Russian encyclopedia” using”reliable information” to displace Wikipedia.
“It is far better to replace it with a large Russian brand new encyclopedia in digital form… .here it’ll be in any instance, dependable data in a fantastic contemporary type,” Russian news agency RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
A draft legislation issued in September by the Ministry fo Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media had floated the notion of an internet Russian encyclopedia, implying to devote 1.7 billion rubles ($24 million) in the 2020-2021 budget into the endeavor.
Putin’s comments come a week after the”Legislation on Sovereign Internet” came into effect permitting the government to detach the nation’s Internet users in the worldwide community.
The Reporters Without Borders (RSF) NGO has greatly criticized the new laws for breaking human rights criteria including freedom of expression and of the media.
