Rafael Nadal pulled out of next week’s Shanghai Experts on Friday saying that he had failed to recover from a wrist injury. Spain’s world number two withdrew from last month’s Laver Cup. It’s the second year in a row the 19-time Grand Slam winner will have neglected to appear in Shanghai. “As you probably know, I had an inflammation in my left wrist throughout the Laver Cup and that I have not had the opportunity to recuperate and practice to be prepared for this wonderful event,” that the 33-year-old stated in a statement.
“I expect to return in Shanghai for the 2020 tournament”
Tournament director Michael Luevano stated: “We will miss not having Rafa here in the Shanghai Pros. He’s been an unbelievable supporter of the championship and tennis in China. “Additionally, on a personal note, in addition to speaking for the whole family in the Shanghai Pros, we want Rafa and his fiance Maria Francisca all the best for their forthcoming wedding.”
