A commercial trip with 326 individuals on board has been forced to make an emergency landing when warm java was spilled across the cockpit control panel across the Atlantic sea, according to a report on Thursday.
The Airbus A330-243 flying into Cancun, Mexico, from Frankfurt, landed at Shannon in Ireland.
Together with the hot liquid resulting in a powerful electric burning smell and smoke rising in the board, the priest decided to divert, the accounts by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said.
The incident occurred after a pilot set his coffee cup with no lid onto a tray table instead of at a cup holder,” the report stated.
There were no injuries from the incident, which occurred in February.
The AAIB failed to recognize the airline but stated it had since shifted procedures to make sure that cup lids are supplied for flights all paths, which crews are knowledgeable about their requirement to utilize them.
