President Donald Trump on Sunday complained that”very dumb people” were about holding following year’s Group of Seven summit at his Miami golf hotel at a tweet which came only weeks after he openly backed away from the proposition.
“Too bad we did not possess the G-7 here,” Trump tweeted, noting Trump National Doral Miami was appointed Golf.com’s hotel of this week. Finest place. Very dumb people believed I’d gain. Wrong! Studying Camp David. Will announce shortly.”
Last month, Trump declared the Miami hotel was no more under consideration to host the global summit, tweeting that he”thought” that he”was doing something great for our Nation by utilizing Trump National Doral, at Miami, for hosting the G-7 Leaders.” The president added that Doral had several benefits, such as”enormous ballrooms & assembly rooms,” and hosting the event would come”in ZERO COST into the USA.”
The thought came under immediate criticism he was trying to profit off the presidency, a problem that’s come up repeatedly throughout Trump’s tenure as a consequence of his regular visits to Trump-owned and Trump-branded possessions.
In August, the House Judiciary Committee declared it would stunt attempts to maintain the G-7 in Doral.
Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney advised “Fox News Sunday” in October that Trump”still believes himself to be in the hospitality industry,” and the president has been”honestly surprised by the degree of pushback.”
“At the close of the day that he still believes himself to be in the hospitality industry and he saw a chance to take the largest leaders from all over the globe and he wished to place to the best series, the very best trip he possibly can, and he had been very comfortable doing this in Doral,” Mulvaney said. “I believe we were surprised at the degree of pushback. I believe that it’s the correct choice to change and we are going to have to find somewhere else and my guess is we will find somewhere else that the media will not enjoy for one more reason.”
