U.S. citizen kidnapped in Afghanistan, U.S. officials State

News of his catch comes less than just three months following that the Taliban freed two Western hostages, American Kevin King and Australian Timothy Weeks, later holding them in captivity for over three decades. The two American University of Kabul professors, both men were kidnapped at gunpoint in August 2016.

In 2017, a military judge spared Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl from prison for walking off his article Afghanistan in 2009, upon which he had been seized by the Taliban in hours. He had been released in 2014 at a prisoner swap organized by President Barack Obama.

The news of this kidnapping comes amid months of on-off U.S.-Taliban discussions that may visit U.S. troops withdraw from Afghanistan in trade for its Taliban agreeing to enter peace talks together with the Afghan authorities and pledging to renounce terrorist allies, such as al Qaeda.

The U.S. has 12,000 to 13,000 troops in Afghanistan, but in December three present and preceding U.S. officials told NBC News that the Trump government was poised to draw roughly 4,000 of them.

Trump has repeatedly vowed to finish the”endless wars” and NBC News reported in Augustthe president has made clear to his advisors he wishes to pull all U.S. troops from Afghanistan from the 2020 election, by five present and former government and army officials.

The war in Afghanistan is America’s longest, with raged for 18 decades and cost the lives of approximately 2,300 troops, by the Department of Defense.

By January 2009, when the United Nations started systematic documentation of civilian casualties, to September, a few 34,000 civilians are killed because of the armed struggle.
